"Knights of Cydonia" es un canción de la banda de rock inglesa Muse y es a su vez el tema de cierre de su álbum Black Holes and Revelations. La edición para las emisoras de radio fue por primera vez emitida el 12 de junio de 2006. La canción fue lanzada como el tercer single de Black Holes and Revelations en el Reino Unido el 27 de noviembre de 2006, entrando directamente al número 10 de la lista británica de sencillos.
La primera interpretación en directo de "Knights of Cydonia" tuvo lugar en un evento de la BBC Radio 1, el One Big Weekend, con sede en Dundee, Escocia el 13 de mayo de 2006. Las actuaciones en directo de "Knights of Cydonia" incluyen un falsetto más alto y claro que en la versión de estudio. En las últimas actuaciones en vivo se ha incluido una parte adicional de guitarra durante el solo del final de la canción, así como un final de guitarra proveniente del tema "Space Dementia".
Este tema, además, aparece en el videojuego multiplataforma Guitar Hero 3 publicado en noviembre de 2007 por Activision.

Música y significado [editar]
La canción incluye los registros más altos y más bajos del cantante Matt Bellamy complementados con toques de sintetizador y partes de trompeta en las actuaciones. El sonido de guitarra de la canción está inspirado en el número uno del año 1962 "Telstar", del grupo "The Tornados", cuyo guitarrista, George Bellamy, es padre de Matt. La canción está compuesta por diversas partes producidas y arregladas de modo distinto, como por ejemplo, el comienzo, inspirado por la música de la Commodore C64.
El nombre de "Cydonia" hace alusión a la región de Marte donde algunas personas creen que ha habido vida, además de ser la parte donde están las famosas "Caras de Marte". La portada del disco Black Holes and Revelations, creada por Storm Thorgerson, está ambientada en la superficie marciana, e incluye cuatro hombres sentados alrededor de una mesa con cuatro caballos en miniatura enfrente de cada uno de ellos. Según la propia banda, "estos hombres representan los "Cuatro Jinetes del Apocalipsis", cada uno de ellos vestidos con un traje que representa el dolor de la humanidad".

Videoclip [editar]
El video de "Knights of Cydonia" fue rodado en cinco días: tres en Rumanía, otro día en Londres y el quinto en Red Rock, California. Este vio la luz el 11 de julio de 2006. Fue rodado con una ambientación de los antiguos spaghetti western con toques futuristas, y con principio y créditos incluidos. Al final del video se puede ver en números romanos MCMLXXXI (1981).
El video fue dirigido por Joseph Kahn, y protagonizado por los actores británicos Russ Bain como el vaquero protagonista, Richard Brake como su antagonista (Sheriff Baron Klaus Rottingham), y Cassandra Bell en el papel de la princesa Shane Kuriyami).
El video sigue un argumento interesante mientras el héroe vaquero es derrotado por el vaquero de negro (antagonista), y es dado por muerto en el desierto, y en donde una mujer montada sobre un unicornio le da nueva información sobre nuevos estilos de combate en la forma de CDs. Antes de que la mujer del héroe caiga del patíbulo presa por el vaquero de negro, el héroe corta la soga con un disparo. Salvándola, utiliza el CD para reflejar contra él uno de los rayos laserés de los vaqueros malos. Habiendo derrotado al malvado vaquero, el héroe cabalga hacia el amanecer con su chica.
Una breve escena en la cual Bain tiene sexo con su interés amoroso fue editada del video para su presentación en televisión. La versión completa sin censura está disponible en la página web del director.

MTV le pidió al grupo Nirvana que interpretara su arrollador éxito "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (ganador de dos premios en la ceremonia), pero la banda había dicho que tocarían dos canciones nuevas, "Rape Me" y "tourette's". Esto no fue del agrado de los ejecutivos del canal, quienes siguieron presionando al grupo para que interpretaran "Teen Spirit". Finalmente, el canal les dio la opción de tocar "Lithium", lo cual la banda aceptó. Sin embargo, al comenzar su presentación, Kurt Cobain tocó los primeros acordes de "Rape Me" ante el horror de los ejecutivos, aunque finalmente interpretaron las canciones que se habían acordado en un comienzo. Casi al acabar su presentación y enojado por el mal funcionamiento de su amplificador, el bajista Krist Novoselic lanzó su bajo al aire. Desafortunadamente, el instrumento cayó sobre su propia frente, dejándolo tendido y aturdido sobre el escenario. Mientras tanto, Cobain comenzó a botar los equipos de la banda, al tiempo que el baterista Dave Grohl corrió hacia el micrófono y empezó a gritar repetidamente "Hi, Axl!".
